Hip Hop: The art of story telling and lyrics.. Is is dead?

HIP HOP, how many of you know exactly what it means. Not many huh? Exactly! What is this Hip Hop you ask? Hip Hop started in the Bronx in the 70's and soon spread throughout New York. Hip Hop is a mix of many cultures. From the Turntables to the Graffiti .. Just for a quick description, Hip Hop quickly grew and became a multicultural leader in fashion and the music industry.

Well here is a thought, name your favorite artist.. OK.. now listen to his/her music. now tell us the story they recited.... we'll wait!!! That's because unless you are a die hard ol' skool Hip Hop fan, you know absolutely nothing of the "Art of story Telling". Which is a rare occasion in today's Hip Hop.  Now don't get it twisted there are so many talented individuals in the game right now and their ability to change with times is amazing.

OK!... here is your next quiz, name a few lyrical artist, and in some occasions I've been heard called"boring artist" or "I can't dance to this" just to name a few. So can you name any..........? Did your list include J Cole , Wale, Meek Mill, Kendrick Lamar, or Joe Budden ... Nah I doubt it. Why? mainly because sometimes you people look at heir music as "lame" which is far from the truth.

Now let's start with Joe Budden. I'm sure may of you have a few rash thoughts about this cat here. So yea yea yea .. he has had his issues with the drug thing, which we pray he gets that under control. also His love life. But, how many have actually listened to any of his music, I highly doubt anybody really listened to it. This guys last two albums " No Love Lost" and "Some Love Lost" were basically a "book on a CD" the lyrics were insane and he told the stories of his life. You can either late or you feel as if you are there as the track spills into your soul. Dope right. I even remember hearing a DJ/Producer criticize the beats, com on man.. you don't deserve to be a DJ if that's all you heard. But the point is he go this Hip Hop and story telling under wraps...Give him his props ..very under rated dude.

https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/born-sinner-deluxe-version/id651105499?uo=4&at=1l3vqPoNext on the let us discuss J Cole... "speechless" . Still tryna figure out why he doesn't get the love he deserves.I mean we talkin bout the same guy that the GOAT Jay Z signed to Roc Nation, the same guy Nas gave props to.. We talkin bout two of the greatest EVER!!!. So why does he not get that RESPECT. His Recent Album  2014 Forest Hills Drive, INSANE album. No singles, no features just straight drop.. No wait he #1 right now .. I guess he done got his respect.. "HOLLYWOOD COLE" keep doing you Son! And all  u Haters go get the Album and get some real music in ya life.

Wale... yup.. MMG's very own poet behind the mike. This guy here can out flow anybody..BUt the nay sayers say all he talk about is love, or he not "Gangsta" enough. I wish i could hear what some people definition of gangsta is..Its guaranteed this guy music will vibe out any arena. 'Just Wait" and Listen.

Check this tho.. Its a few more that could be named , but as they say that's too much to type. Drake, yea he sing and rap.. SO WHAT!!! He can kill any track and you understand the meaning of every title to every track, the best at what he does. The Barb Nicki...yea she got it on lock... An lets not forget the Up n coming 3DNATEE. New Orleans Breead and can shut most dudes down. check her out she got many stories to tell..

Alright alright.. thas enough real for you folks. Just don't forget Hip Hop is not just the glitz and Glamor. Its our way to express. A new Genre. Its versatile , the fashion creator, HIP HOP is running the word, Lets not waste it. Keep the REAL music going The Lyrics, the stories, most importantly the LOVE of the craft. Lets make more movements. Your answer no "The Art" isn't dead we just only have a select few that still possess that skill. This has been a IAMTHEINFLUENCE.COM moment by  non other than "Mr IAMTHEINFLUENC" as we like to say "Keep it Hip Pop and may God bless"

Cam Newton has been released from hospital after car crash

Cam Newton has headed home after the wreck he was involved in that caused his truck to flip. Newton was released and is home now resting up and recouping with family. As it looks according to the police reports Newton is not at fault.

According to witnesses a driver pulled out in front of Newton as he headed to Panthers facilities. The driver stuck Cams rear driver side tire. Newton says he tried to avoid the collision but was not successful resulting in the overturning of his vehicle.According to police he wasn't speeding at the time of the wreck.

The Panthers have put out a statement on Tuesday, stating that Cam Newton will be sidelined for this Sundays game. He suffered two fractures in his back as a result of the crash.

Newton recently posted a pic of his truck on Facebook and here is what he had to say...
"I do not know where to begin because by the look of that picture so ME one is supposed to be dead or severely injured worse than what I am right now! While I am resting up the thought that keeps flashing in my mind is that GOD IS GOOD and someone has there protective hands on my life shielding me from any danger that may come my way! I know one thing, YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF "IF" you are holding a grudge against someone, "IF" you don't tell the people that's close and dear to you that "YOU LOVE THEM" every chance you get, "IF" your mad because something didn't go your way today! L1FE IS TO SHORT FOR YOU NOT TO APPRECIATE IT TO THE FULLNESS; THROUGH THE GOOD AND THE BAD! I thank you to the people who have been keeping me in there prayers and well wishes for a speedy recovery! I am appreciative for the many great things GOD has given me to be thankful for. It's a old cliché statement but it says "GOD WORKS IN MYSTERIOUS WAYS!" And as that crash constantly plays back in my mind every time I close my eyes, I can't go another day without me THANKING GOD for the opportunities he has given me in my life and this accident puts ALOT of things in perspective of what's important and what's not! SHAMEonYOU if YOU go another second in life with holding a grudge or HATING on someone, taking life for granted, or just not appreciating the breath you just breathed; trust and believe there are plenty people with illnesses, people in the hospital, or even people that are 6ft under the earth that W1SH they had "another"opportunity to do so! So if you read this I challenge you to L1VE life to the fullness everyday! 1OVE the people who are close to you (and don't be afraid to tell them as well)! FORG1VE "whoever" for "whatever" they did! Trust when I tell you that L1FE is to short for you NOT to do those things! ‪#‎THANKyouJESUSforALLOWINGmeTOseeANOTHERday‬"

The injuries that Newton incurred are not the type that affect you nerves, so with that being said we are praying for your well being and speedy recovery..

Sugarhill Gang's Big Bank Hank dies at 57

We have lost a legend in Hip Hop. A member of Sugarhill Gang has passed away Tuesday due to cancer complications.

Henry Jackson better known as "Big Bank Hank" passed away Tuesday morning in Englewood, New Jersey. He was 57 years old.

He was a part of the groups hit song "Rappers Delight" a song that in one version is more than 14 minutes long. A song that became the 1st rap song to hit top 40 on the U.S Billboard Charts. He had one of the more well known lines in the song ....

"Ho-tel, mo-tel, Holiday Inn/ if your girl starts acting up then you take her friend"

His two band mates Wonder Mike and Master Gee issued a emotional statement Tuesday.

"So sad to hear about our brother's passing. The 3 of us created musical history together with the release of Rapper's Delight. We will always remember traveling the world together and rocking the house. Rest in peace Big Bank."
The three friends were unknown MCs when producer Sylvia Robinson recruited them to record the song for her rap label, Sugar Hill Records.

Juvenile inks a deal with Cash Money

So, through out the years we have heard that the "Original Hot Boyz" was gonna get back together. Unfortunately, that has never happened. As the rest of the world has watched  Baby aka "Birdman" bring Cash Money Records from the New Orleans Label to a world wide powerhouse label.

Recently Juve sat down for a second to talk with MTV new stating,

“It’s already done. I signed the paperwork a couple days ago. I’m signed back,” he revealed. “Rich Gang, I’m getting ready to get my little tattoo and everything. It’s all love, man. I’m back.”

Anybody that has followed Cash Money knows that Juvenile and Cash Money were not on the best of terms for many years because of some issues with compensation. So in 2003 Juvenile left the crew!
Juvenile had a number of hits while he was a member of Cash Money such as 1997 Soulja Ragz.

UH OH!!! : Trouble in Wiz and Ambers House

Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose are headed for divorce, according to a TMZ report published Tuesday.
Divorce documents obtained by TMZ indicate that Rose filed for divorce from the rapper, citing irreconcilable differences.

Although there is nothing out there saying that either has cheated, there are a few rumors citing just maybe Nick Cannon ..Yup Mariah's estranged husband , may have had a bit of a romance. That speculation was sparked after Cannon recently signed the 30-year-old model to his management company, NCredible Entertainment.
According to TMZ Nick Cannon says he only learned that Wiz and Amber were having issues on last week through her lawyers when he signed her as a client. This is when he found out and the two later discussed "break up stories"

Sources say Amber is asking for full legal and physical custody of their 1-year old son Sebastian. Yet..she is willing to give Wiz visitation. Amber also says that there is a prenup...and she isn't challenging it??? WHAT!! There is spousal support tho.. sooo yea..

On another note us here at IAMTHEINFLUENC love Amber and Wiz as a couple, lets hope they can make this work. as we always say KEEP IT HIP-HOP!!

The 56th Grammy Awards Recap

The night our favorite artist have waited for is here. I think it's safe to expect some of our usual suspects to rack up in a few categories. On the other hand there are certainly some newcomers worthy of some hardware. Just browsing through the nominees you'll see a lot unfamiliar names, I'm not sure if that's a wake up call to the musical vets or a positive expansion in the world of music, either way we ceaseless to be entertained.

Kicking off the night and performances was Bey and Jay. Beyoncé did her epic "drunk in love" track with hubby hov. The two have had the world buzzing for a minute now with this uncharacteristic like hit by Bey. I'm not sure if the infatuation of the song is from how good it is or because Bey stepped out of her shell and did something out of the norm, needless to say she rocked the stage, half naked and all.

Also doing a stellar performance was Daft Punk. The team choreograph a funky little Stars Wars theme, definitely got some love around the world for that one. The punk squad also picked up some steel with a Grammy win for best pop duo performance with their collab with Pharrell.

Not a surprising winner but in a surprising upset, Macklemore wins for best new artist. He beat out Kendrick Lamar who is undoubtedly a house hold name. You got to wonder if Lamar's success almost disqualified him from this category.

In the best pop performance, Lorde snagged one for the hit single "Royals". This song was definitely different from what you're accustomed to seeing in today's songs and videos but it very relatable.

Rock God, Paul McCartney came out a winner for best rock song with "cut me some slack". Who says you're too old to rock out!?!

Joining veteran rock winner club is Led Zepplin. Zep took home the Grammy for best Rock Rock Album.

Alicia Keys has kind of been missing from the limelight but she made a bit of her presence felt as of late. Keys wins Grammy for best R&B album. The journey to this victory was led by the hit single "girl on fire".

Adding to his total, Maclemore wins the Grammy for Rap album of the year as well as Rap song of the year with "Thrift Store". I know a lot of people were a bit shocked by this one including myself. Not only did Maclemore beat out pound for pound some of the best artist in the game with "thrift store" but his album "the heist" manage to out due "yeezus" and "magna carta"! This is an upset if I've ever heard of one. Somewhere Kanye is ranting he's been robbed.

Although Jay-Z missed out on best song and album and song but he would take home the best video award. The epic collab with pretty boy Justin Timberlake was mega hit this past summer and nested at the top of charts for months. Speaking of JT, he managed to snag a Grammy of his own for "pusher love girl." The track won for best R&B song.

Bad Girl R-Ri didn't rack up like we're accustomed to seeing but victorious still. Rihanna took the Grammy for best Urban Comtemporary album.

Bruno Mars collected this year at the #Grammys as well. Mars award came in the form best pop vocals for "unorthodox jukebox".

This years 2 biggest winners were clearly Daft Punk who featured Pharrell and Maclemore. I don't think anyone expected either to steal the awards they did. Pharrells smooth voice really made this track the true hit it is. The record of the years is undoubted bone the most coveted #Grammys of the year. Maclemore kept mouths on the floor with each of his stunning wins. I can't imagine anyone who expected him to make it out alive in categories with the likes of Jay-Z, Ye', Drake and Kendrick Lamar. You can only expect music to improve from here. The heavyweights went to battle and virtually lost to a newcomer. All in all this past year was a superb and most memorable year for music.

Call him cocky, paparazzi crazed, controversial, or just plain nuts but Mr. West has done it again. “Yeezus”, the name of his latest masterpiece, has just been certified platinum. This is the 7th consecutive platinum album for Kanye. The album dropped back on June 18th; it didn’t exactly sprint towards the platinum finish line but still impressive the nonetheless. The journey was led by singles like “Blood on the leaves” and “New Slaves.”
Ye’ is still out making his rounds on tour; a tour that was extended due to its overwhelming success. The Yeezus tour has raked in more than $25 million, making it 2013’s most successful tour by far.

James Avery "Uncle Phil" dies at 65

James Avery, one of tv's beloved father's, passed away late Tuesday night. Avery, 65, died from complications of his recent open heart surgery. The actor has played tons of roles over the years but will forever be known as "Uncle Phil" on the hit show "Fresh Prince of Belair." On one of America's best sitcoms ever, Avery played the role of a stern but loving, and sometimes comedic father, a role that a diverse audience could relate to.

Many of his peers spoke out about the news of his passing. His son on the show, Alfonso Robeiro aka "Carlton", said via twitter "I'm deeply saddened to say that James Avery has passed away. He was a second father to me. I will miss him greatly."

Before Uncle Phil came into our lives, James Avery had an already impressive resume. He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. After a brief military stint, he then studied and pursued a career in acting. In 1980 his first shot at stardom was an uncredited role as a dancer in the movie Blues Brothers. Not only was he a classically trained actor but he was an exceptional poet. The world truly lost a brilliant man with profound talent. James Avery and the legacy of "Uncle Phil" will live on forever.
