REPLACEMENT REFS: The end of a bad SAGA!!!!

After tons of questionable and controversial calls, the NFL's hated replacement referees are dismissed. The long overdue kiss and make up between league officials and field officials was about 4 weeks too late. This lockout dispute was one that many seen boiling but no one really thought it would take affect. The league took a major loss. Nevertheless fans and players are more than happy to see consistency back on Sundays and Mondays too.

Last night during the Thursday night showdown between Baltimore and Cleveland, fans applauded to returning referees. A sight we have rarely ever seen in the history of the NFL. Zebras getting the curtain call? Weird! Players such as Ray Rice said "its great to have those guys back, it looked like they knew were they were doing." Although just like before they were some call that made coaches bark a bit, there was certainly nothing overly questionable such as Mondays night controversial call during the Green Bay and Seattle game. Ravens would go on to win 23-16

With the replacement refs under a microscope and every call in the spotlight, there are many interesting points of views to take in. There was indeed bad calls made but what seemed to be just as bad was the constant stoppage and breaks in flow of the game. Even when they didn't make a bad call they would huddle for review to make sure they were getting it right. This slowed and extended games, ruined rhythm's, and scoring drives around the league. After a while we no longer wanted the calls right, we just wanted decisiveness and consistency, even if they were consistently bad!

Some experts are arguing theories of fixed games and bought officials. Others are saying the possibility of the replacements being purposely bad to re insure a reconciliation between the league and the old officials. Here's a thought...with so many upsets and premier teams struggling, are the replacement referees simply a scapegoat for bad play around the league? Um I doubt it! I'm sure the fans have drawn their own conclusion after 4 weeks of misery. Order has been restored and there's a lot of time for your fantasy teams improve.

Romney caught red handed
As if the gap wasn’t big enough for Obama, Governor Romney widens the space. We’re use to seeing and hearing some questionable comments from Romney, but I think he over did himself with his most recent ones. While apparently being taped without his knowledge, Mitt Romney says among other things “it’s not his job to care about those people”. Those people being American citizens of the great country who he is trying to become the president of. Romney would go on to say those same people he doesn’t care about pay no taxes in this country. After saying more than a mouth full, his campaign has been doing damage country ever since. I’m sure the Obama campaign is tallying up the new voters this week.

Chic-fil a clarifies
I think by now there is no secret on where Chic-fil-a execs stand on gay marriage, well maybe. Now the company is reportedly changing their position in which they stand in reference to gay marriage. If you remember the company not only not in support of gays but were making donations to anti-gay groups. As of late the executives have done away with the donations and have since implemented a policy of protection for their gay employee’s. Seems like a bit of contradiction, but Chic-fil-a executives claim their just concerned for their employees and possible discrimination. This new policy comes after 10 months of negotiations. It will be interesting to see what new publicity will come after the new change of heart by the chicken folks.

Let me update my Facebook as I hold you hostage
Pittsburgh was the site of a familiar situation, but its police department was faced with an unusual decision. 22 year old Klein Michael Thaxton decided take another Pittsburgh man hostage last week in a high rise suite on the 16th floor, and chat on Facebook as he did it. After spending a lengthy time negotiating the police find out Thaxton was entertaining messages from Facebook. Soon they were force to make a decision whether to going with full force or to suspend the Facebook account of Thaxton. Detectives say he was receiving messages and responding to quite a bit of them. Many of the messages were from friends who were aware of the situation and actually encouraged him to holdout as long as possible. Finally after all the messaging stopped they were able to get him out and he is now facing charges of kidnapping, terrorist threats, aggravated assault and is being held on $1 million dollar bail.

Father first now husband
If you’ve think you heard it all before this story, well you haven’t.  An Ohio woman accidentally married the Father she never. The sad thing is people around her knew but only her uncle had the guts to say after her “husband” died. After she finally came to grips with it she decided to admit it to the world. Learning the devastating news nearly killed the poor woman; she had 2 strokes and was diagnosed with diabetes as well. After months of therapy, she encourages anyone who has been separated from their immediately family to seek them out, not for incest purposes but just because family is important.

College Football week 4
This weekend in college football did not disappoint, some top notch games from top notch conferences. First premier game of Saturday was between Kansas State and Oklahoma; both teams were top 25 in the land. Oklahoma apparently fell asleep while watching film because they slept on k-state offense and that would cause them to fall 24-19, the loss will certainly boot the sooners out the top 10 now. No one expected the Miami Hurricane and Georgia Tech game to be a spectacular game but if you watched you got just the opposite.  The Hurricane’s would come from behind and take the yellow jackets to overtime and beat them 42-36. One of the biggest games to forward to and one of the biggest rivalries was Notre Dame and Michigan. Michigan from the jump was shook and Notre Dame smelled blood, they capitalize with great defense and win 13-6. The absolute must see game of the night was the #10 Clemson Tigers taking the #4 Florida State Seminoles. Clemson would come out knock the noles right in the mouth with a 60 yard touchdown pass. Noles would respond and finally pull away toward the end of the game and never looked back. Seminoles win 49-37 and may finally get some votes for those top 2 spots in the country.

NFL week 3
If you’re involved in fantasy football or playing in your weekly pool at work you may have lost big this weekend. Many games that looked like sure victories on paper were anything but on the field. Lets just call it upset Sunday starting with the Oakland Raiders beating big Ben and the Steelers. The raiders would take the win on a last second field goal 34-31. Another odd beating was the Houston Texans over the Broncos and their newly acquired quarterback Peyton Manning. Manning wouldn’t have a bad game but the Texans as a whole had a better game and get the win 31-25. The struggles would continue for Drew Brees and the Saints. They would go into Kansas City this week hoping to have worked out the kinks but they just couldn’t get it going yet against the chiefs. The chiefs get their first win and the Saints fall to 0 and 3. The last unusual win of the day would have to go to the Vikings, who took on San Francisco. San Fran came into this game with 2 wins looking for #3, the problem is the Vikes were thinking the same thing. Vikes would go as far as Christian Ponder would take them.  Ponder was a part of 3 touchdowns Sunday, including running one in himself. The defense would hold the 49ers to 13 allowing them to win 24-13. Overall a very interesting weekend of football.

 DNC

This year’s Democratic National Convention was one for the ages. There were some memorable speeches and moments from someone other than the President himself. Former president Bill Clinton, and husband of the current secretary of state Hilary Clinton, stepped in and really capture the essence of what the Obama camp and the democrats are trying to accomplish in this year’s election. The American people stood up and behind Clinton who did more than rally the crowd but gave hope for the potential of four more years. Also giving a riveting speech was vice president Joe Biden. Biden along with president Obama talked about the current struggles in America but encouraged Americans that the job at hand is not done and that together we can finish strong in the upcoming years.

VMA’S

It seems like just months ago we were sitting around discussing the antics of last year’s VMA’s, but they’ve crept up on us once again. This year’s big winner was Rihanna who won the most prestigious award of the night for “best video” with “we found love.” Another notable winner was Rihanna’s ex Chris Brown, who took home the trophy for “best male video”, as well “best choreography” for “turn up the music”. Brown’s arch nemesis, Drake would win “best hip hop video” with the song “HYFR”. This year’s awards was hosted by Mr. Let me explain himself, Kevin Hart. Hart was hilarious as always, and made sure to make light of anything possible. Some of the great moments of the night included a classy performance by Frank ocean with “thinkin bout you.” Also performing and killing the stage was Lil Wayne and the hottest mc in the game, 2chainz.

NFL

The NFL is back and ready to kickoff. There were many stories in the opening week that are intriguing and have fans glued to the tubes this Sunday. First, the New Orleans Saints players were reinstated just in time for their opener against Sir Robert Griffin III. The freed players would not be enough against RG3 and the skins. Griffin would finish with a total of 320 yards for 2 touchdowns in his NFL debut win 40-32. The other rookie sensation making his debut wouldn’t be so LUCK-Y. Quarterback Andre Luck would pass for 309 and a td but had 3 interceptions against the Bears in a 41-21 loss. A big time matchup this Sunday was the 49ers versus Aaron Rodgers and the pack. The pack would fall to the running of Frank Gore and the leg of David Akers, who hit 3 field goals including an NFL record tying 63yarder. Other notable NFL action was Mark Sanchez and the Jets taking on the Bills. Sanchez would shine and show why he is the starter. He threw for 3 scores on 266 yards passing in a 48-28 blast of the Bills.

Serena adds to her grand slam collection

I think it’s safe to say Serena Williams has made a full comeback. She ran away with the women’s singles gold medal in the London Olympics, now she handles business at the U.S Open. After winning the U.S Open this weekend, this is Serena’s 15th grand slam victory. This year she has accomplished so much, including not only the women’s single gold medal but also the double medal with Sister Venus. Along with the medals she also won the Wimbledon title again and now the most prestigious of them all, the U.S Open. With Serena returning to her winning ways there is no doubt she will also return to her number one ranking, after all this year she certainly has earned it.

Grandfather: Oops I missed

attempting to scare off some stray cats with his 22 caliber shotgun when he shot his 3 year granddaughter. The man was somehow unaware the child was standing directly in the path he was firing and shot the young girl. Fortunately the bullet only grazed the top of her knee exiting the other side, and she only required minor surgery and a few stitches. The man will not face any charges for the accident but says he will never forgive himself for this and is just happy his granddaughter wasn’t severely hurt.

New York gets slammed with storms

Weeks after storms tear through the southern states, New York receives a little bad weather of their own. For a few days the city of New York had been experiencing some bad weather including high winds and rain but it took a turn for the worse. Brooklyn and Queens New York both saw an unfamiliar sight of tornadoes in their city. After the first tornado hit, the second followed within ten miles away. Although some residents were warned no one was prepared for what they seen on Saturday. There were no serious injuries reported but lots of downed trees and power lines, as well as some damaged buildings. The two funnel tornadoes had wind gust reaching 70 miles per hour. While Sunday is usually a day of relaxing, most spent it cleaning up the neighborhoods and getting streets back to normal.

Tulane football player suffers life altering hit

I think just about the entire college football world cringed this weekend after seeing a near fatal hit. Tulane University football player Devon Walker was attempting to make a tackle during the Tulsa game when his head connected with teammates and left him motionless on the field. An Ambulance immediately rushed on the field and carted him off accordingly and put him into a cervical collar, which is an apparatus for neck support and precautions. Once they reached the hospital it was determine that Walker suffered a broken neck and a collapsed lung. A day later he’s in stable condition in a Tulsa Oklahoma hospital where doctors are currently uncertain of what the future holds for the football player. It has also been determined that Walker has indeed suffered a fractured spine, and it could take 24, 48, or even 72 hours to see what long term affects he may have.

Fashion week New York

It’s that time again for fashion week in New York City sponsored by Mercedes Benz. If it’s going to be hot, the talk of the season and everybody will be wearing it, you will definitely see it in New York at fashion week. Among those making a big splash at fashion week was Victoria Beckham, who revealed her new spring of 2013 collection. Beckham even made an appearance as well as her husband on the runaway as she showed her signature collection with a touch of her usual elegance. Also displaying their collections were DKNY and designer Tracy Reese. Both have some new trendy styles lined up for 2013. Some other designers who are looking to steal the show this upcoming week are Lacoste, Ralph Lauren, and of course the never disappointing Michael Kors, they all have the fashionista’s sizzling with anticipation this week.

VINDICATION For Saints Players

After months of being labeled a malicious bunch and bounty hunters, several New Orleans Saints players have been vindicated. Earlier today 3 members from an appeals panel along with the NFL, reinstated and lifted the suspension of the 4 Saints players. The league stated today that they will make a determination as to what the punishment shall be until then Jonathan Vilma, Will Smith, Scott Fujita, and Anthony Hargrove are all reinstated. The decision comes just two days before the regular season kicks off for the Saints and company.  Sources say they are certain the league and commissioner Goodell will no doubt impose some penalty, but what it may be right now is unknown.
In the words of college football analysis guru Lee Corso, ‘”NOT SO FAST”. What most fans and spectators fail to realize is this doesn’t permanently secure the players for the entirety of the season. Unfortunately Goodell still intends to penalize them, just simply after a correct determination is made. As of right now all players are eligible to play and start. Linebacker Jonathan Vilma who tweeted today” Victory is mine”, he will undoubtedly start. Vilma is the heart and soul of the Saints hard nose defense, and like the rest he intends to be ready for Sunday’s matchup at home against the Redskins.

JUST IN : Michael Clarke Duncan has died

It has been brought to our attention that actor Michael Clarke Duncan has died today. He had been hospitalized since June 13th after suffering from a heart attack. He was 54 years old.
The Oscar nominated actor most known for his roll in "The Green Mile" as the gentle sole John Coffee, was also a security guard for big names such as Martin Lawrence and Will Smith, even the late Notorious B.I.G.  He also starred in other Hollywood hits such as Armageddon, The Scorpion King and Planet of the Apes.
Our prayers definitely go out to his family and their loss.

Childhood Obesity "Place Your Blame"

Overweight or Obesity is described as anyone who has an abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that could potentially impair his or her health. In the last 30 years the numbers for obesity have multiplied tremendously but now they’re climbing in the category of our children. Child and youth obesity is an unspoken issue and so many around the world are naïve about this epidemic. Children are unfortunately being led down an unhealthy path of destruction. Their everyday lives are being unguided with such negligence and poor supervision.
When people think obesity they naturally think of adult men and women who are largely overweight and have trouble getting around etc. Well that maybe a decent description but it certainly doesn’t only exist in adults. BMI or body mass index is an index for weight to height and commonly used by nutritionist or doctors to determine the appropriate weight for an individual. For adults BMI isn’t often the perfect way to judge people on where they should be due to various body types and muscle capacity; however in children it does bring a more fair analysis on where a child’s weight should be. An example of an obese child according to BMI would be an 8 year old who’s 4’9” and weighs 245lbs. The average BMI has determined that most children at that age and around that height should be about 90lbs or possibly smaller, so right away you see there is a huge weight disparity. The problem is parents are oblivious to test like these and naïve about their child’s weight risk.
If you were to speak to the average mother of an overweight child and explain that her child is obese for his or her age she’d first probably take offense. Second she’d probably either disagree or think that it is perfectly normal to be a bit heavier at a younger age and add that so many kids are. Well truth is it’s certainly not normal nor is it a healthy lifestyle for a child. Before we dabble into the health risk, some of the other issues dispensed from obesity are social or psychologicall, such as bullying and self-esteem. Kids are getting heavier at alarming rates, and being embarrassed and bullied are commonly becoming part of a bigger kid’s life. Children every year lash out in what is really an unsurprising manner, due to bullying and being picked on. We’ve seen that sometimes this lashing out ends tragically. After bullying we tend to find depression, lack of self-esteem, and isolation. All these things can stem from obesity and can ultimately lead to life altering events such as suicide. The unfortunate reality is parents play a huge role in the rise of obesity and are partly to blame.
Not only are the numbers rising but so are the health risks for children. A study done by the World Health Organization determine that 44% of obese children are more likely to have diabetes, 23% will acquire some form of heart disease and the other small percentage could potentially get cancer. The good thing is all these risk are preventable, but only when taking serious and a conscious effort is made. This effort has to come from parents who are not naïve about the weight of their children and also school menu’s and exercising courses. Together everyone most do their part. Thanks to a couple campaigns in the last few years, we have seen schools nationwide make progressive efforts in providing healthier options and an emphasis on physical education.  These efforts have and will go a long way in the future in hopes of decreasing the number of childhood obesity. However a generation that came before us once said “it starts at home”.
Parents are the ultimate role models for their children, because they have the opportunity set some type of example for their kids every day. Kids mimic what their parents do, so parents should lead by example and live a healthier lifestyle at home. Help kids realize healthy is cool and understand that ultimately eating healthy will give them the longevity they need to achieve their goals. Along with finding healthier options, parents should work with schools and encourage physical activities at home as well as school. As society evolves and the toys get more sophisticated, kids tend to hibernate from the good old fashion playground, but it often takes a bike or puppy to get them out of the house for some cardio.
At the end of the day the health of children is the responsibility of schools, food distributors but none more than parents. One can only hope that food distributors will be more responsible, but their argument which is a valid one, will always be moderate consumption. So ultimately it falls back on the parents and the school system. The two must work together cohesively. Schools have to continue implement healthier options as well educate kids on what a healthy lifestyle should be and parents have to stress not only the importance of homework but working hard to be healthy.

Hurricane Isaac Recap

After a week Louisiana residents are still reeling from destruction and begin to pick up the pieces from hurricane Isaac. 7 years almost to the date of hurricane Katrina, many residents were dreading the same outcome yet again. Isaac didn’t slay 1800 residents like KATRINA but its damage was significant. St. Tammany, Acsencion, Plaquesmines, and a few other parishes were nearly drowned out and even 10 feet deep in certain spots. Lots of residents called it déjà vu all over again. Friday which was hot, muggy, and stuck, many residents went back into their homes to salvage what was left. The mayor of New Orleans said its currently another storm that left us in misery but we're thankful to be alive and know that things could’ve of been much worse. As the electricity begins to slowly trickle back on throughout the state, the beauty that remains is the love of New Orleans and its surrounding areas as everyone lends a helping hand to each other.

RNC

The 2012 Republican National Convention aka Obama bash, had to be the story of the week. Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan did their best to win over support for their respective side. They did all but physically take shots at current president Barack Obama. Joining the Obama bash was 82 old actor Clint Eastwood. Dirty Harry himself was certainly playing dirty last week in attempt to make light of the president. Unfortunately the senior citizen apparently forgot the punch lines to the joke and the joke was basically on him and so are the current campaign numbers. As it stands president Obama still has a hefty lead over Romney and the comedians.

Chris Lighty

Long time music manager and record label CEO, Chris Lighty committed suicide outside of his home in Bronx, New York. Police Lighty and his wife Veronica was having an argument over financial issues when Lighty stepped outside his home and shot himself. Sources say he was having financial issue and was apparently in debt and it was taking a toll on him. Most are supporting this same story but his business partner isn’t buying saying that foul play might be involved. Micheal Williams stated that Lighty may have been having finaciual issue but doesn’t believe the suicide story. Williams claims Lighty would’ve killed himself over stress and other pressure but not debt. Whichever is the correct story we maybe never know. Lighty managed 50cent, Mariah Carey, Diddy, JA Rule, and many more.

Fan deaths at sports games

In one week 2 fans fall to their deaths at sporting events. The first occurrence was at Reliant stadium in Houston, Texas. A 45 year old man was leaning on an escalator when he fell 60 feet to his death at a Texans-Vikings preseason football game. The second was at the Georgia Dome during the Tennessee and Georgia college football game. A 33 year old Tennessee man was cheering on the Vols after their 2nd touchdown pass of the night when he fell from the upper deck and eventually died from his injuries. No one knows whether alcohol may have been a factor in each each of these deaths but this is the 3rd fan death in a year at a sports stadium, some type of protective measures must been implemented.

College Football is back!

I think the moment college fans have been waiting for finally came this Saturday. College football kicked off this Saturday with some pretty good showdowns scheduled or at least they were supposed to be. Coming into this season the USC Trojans who were previously banned from any type of National Championship contention, came in ranked number 1. Led by quarterback Matt Barkely, the Trojans would take on Hawaii and it would not even be close. The Trojans would run away with a 49-10 win. The game of the weekend was supposed to be #2 Alabama squaring off against #8 Michigan. If there was any game that Heisman hopeful Denard Robinson would’ve needed to play his best game ever it was against the Tide. Instead, Bama would not let Robinson get comfortable at all, they swarmed him on defense and destroyed Michigan with their prolific offense. Freshman sensation T.J Yeldon, would run for over a 100 yards in his debut and quarterback AJ McCarron would throw for 2 touchdowns as the tide rolled to a 41-14 victory. Other notable wins was #12 Clemson beating the un-ranked Auburn down the stretch 26-19, with a crunch time touchdown pass by Tahj Boyd.

$337 million dollar Powerball winner claims his prize

The winner of a gigantic size jackpot finally stepped out of the shadows. 44 year old Donald Lawson eventually claimed his money after leaving the nation in speculation as to who the winner was. Lawson said he was thinking long hard about the things he will do with his money and counting his blessings. He plans to do the normal things and live the simple life as usual despite his huge earnings. The father of two said he doesn’t tend to do anything out of the ordinary but take care of his family and pay debts. Traveling is about the only thing I will add to my lifestyle said Lawson but not much else.
